Talk Around Town, developed with the specific needs of parents and caregivers of young children in mind, offers an innovative solution to enhance communication and language development during these excursions.

This application utilizes location services to deliver targeted tips as users arrive at selected destinations, such as parks, libraries, stores, and restaurants. Users receive practical and research-backed recommendations in both English and Spanish, facilitating meaningful interactions that can positively impact a child's language skills.

Developed by child development researchers at the University of Kansas, the tips provided within the app are grounded in extensive research on child language acquisition.

How to Get Started

Initiating use of Talk Around Town is straightforward:

Select a location by either pressing and holding on the map or entering an address through the “Location” menu.
Upon arriving at your designated locations, notifications will prompt you to access tailored tips for that outing.
Explore three actionable suggestions by clicking on each notification to see how they can be applied in real time.

Talk Around Town was developed collaboratively by Juniper Gardens Children’s Project and Asgaardian Workshop at the University of Kansas. Importantly, both entities prioritize your privacy and do not collect personal data that could identify you or your child.
